Security Forces have recovered several letters written by female Tiger cadres who perished while manning LTTE frontlines in Mannar. Security Forces overran these bunkers in their operations. Here is one such letter written by a female Tiger cadre to her sister
(translated):
"My ever loving Chrmi Akka (elder sister),
With the blessings of god, I am all right here. I write these lines with my tears to know about you.
Akka, are you keeping well? What is news about Wayonthara? Ilavarasy is my LTTE name. I got your letter on 09.03.2008 and I was very happy to read it. I inquired about you all from those of our side. Akka, they ask to win the line of fate when we are striving to cross it. I don't understand how to write and what to write. We cry at our heart recalling our school days and the time we had with our father. Why don't we get back our early days of life? Only gods know.
Akka, never forget the god who protects us. Akka, god spares me from being injured. Shell rounds fall to the rear of the field. Thank you very much for sending me a letter. It was a great relief to me. Akka, old Ravimani is now changed in colour, figure and mind. I don't want to see me in the mirror even.
Sun rises and sets without any use. I feel very sorry about Amma (mother). She weeps over me. What is there to be done but waiting with closed eyes before these adversities.
I am a mad girl now. Come what may. Pray not only for me but for all children. Neelan's LTTE name is Kaviyan. His wounds are improved now. He is at Periyamadu. Jelin's situation is miserable. We are also subjected to this situation. They are injured before our eyes. We are reminded of heroic death. Each day dawns with troubles. I don't know how long we will be here. Roby has two A's and one B in Mathematics. Family members also suffer. I feel sorry about the mother. Akka, when do we meet together? I am waiting for that day. Always pray god. He protects us. There were two massive attacks on 10.03.2008. I narrowly escaped.
I am living because of god. Now it is continuously raining here. Water level has come up to the knee. We are wet up to our hip. Let's see how long god will trouble us.

Air Force destroy LTTE training facility and Radar post in Wanni

Air Force fighter jets had successfully carried out two bombing missions targeting two well identified camps of LTTE terrorists located in Wanni region this morning, said by the Media Centre for National security (MCNS). Air Force had targeted an LTTE training facility and a Radar location in Kilinochchi.
Air Force Spokesman Wing Commander Andrew Wijesooriya had told the defence.lk that the first mission was launched around 6.25.a.m. targeting a training facility located inside a jungle patch at Kalmadukulam, in North-East of Iranamadhu.
The second mission had been launched at 6.35.a.m. targeting a Radar location in the Valaipadu area, South of Poonaryn, Defence .lk reports. Wing Commander Wijesooriya had said that the targets had been positively identified through human intelligence and verified by air surveillance. The Kfir and F-7 fighter jets had carried out the missions jointly and the targets were successful, the defence sources confirmed.

Sri Lanka has launched a mystery poster campaign inviting would-be Tamil Tiger suicide bombers to phone a government helpline in exchange for 10 million rupees ($92,000) and a new life overseas."Why should you die with a scattered body?" the red-and-yellow posters, placed in Tamil-dominated areas of the capital, Colombo, asked readers contemplating becoming members of what the rebels call elite "Black Tiger" suicide squads."You also were born to live. Why should you carry bombs?" the posters said alongside a fuzzy black-and-white photograph of a suicide bomber's severed head.Sri Lanka's capital and other districts have increasingly been targeted by suicide attacks as the government and military vow to defeat the Tigers by December, pressing home an offensive against northern rebel strongholds.The military, perhaps wary of scaring off genuine callers with rebel sympathies, said it was unaware of the posters, which invited readers to phone a government-operated 118 line that went unanswered when called by Reuters on Thursday.Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanyakkara said he did not want to comment on whether the failure to answer was a fatal campaign flaw or whether the line could be swamped by the poor in a nation where average yearly salaries are $2,230.Police, who with the military man most road corners and major buildings in Colombo, said they were also unaware who placed the posters, which make no mention of a backer other than relying on a government number."We do not know who pasted up the poster," said Mangala Dehideniya, in charge of Wellawatta Police where many of the posters were placed.The posters said Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran should sacrifice his own son before asking others to become suicide bombers."Your life is precious and you have only one. Abducted fishermen who had to work under slavery by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) escaped to freedom after braving through thick jungle and man eating crocodiles.
Military sources said, “ only eight survived after losing two and four respectively to crocodiles and Tamil Tiger sniper fire during the their successful attempt to escape out of the original 14 who were working in a LTTE slave camp.”
When they were rescued three out of the eight survived also have been injured by LTTE sniper fire and have been admitted to the Vavuniya hospital. The Sri Lanka Army said the dramatic rescue under a shower of bullets took place March 26, Vavuniya , in the war torn Northern Province.
They were first noticed by the Army while the escapees were trying to come out of jungle in the midst of LTTE fire power, three kilometres East of Omanthai , entry exit point. Troops fired back at the small arms firing LTTE terroriststs, and saved eight lives.
The surviving fishermen said they were abducted by the LTTE terrorists while out on fishing in the sea about 20 nautical miles East of Putlam and kalpitiya respectively February 10 and march 2007. They were in slavery for more than one year after being taken by force to Arippu employed in forced labour in the LTTE camps in the Vishwamadu , in the LTTE dominated Mulaitivu Distric in the northern Province of Sri Lanka.
The fishermen were hailing from the Southern and Western coast of Sri Lanka and were of the fishing villages of Tangalle, kalpitiya, and Negombo areas.
The survived fishermen said they survived under harsh conditions and worked outdoors for 13 months until the man power of the Tamil Tigers were lessening and the guard on them became lax. They said at the opportune moment, a week ago they escaped when the terrorists were distracted.
They had to walk more than 70 kilometres braving thick jungles sometimes marching across marshy land infested by man eating crocodiles.
The fishermen said one of them became the food of a crocodile and the other was severely injured by a crocodile who succumbed to the injuries later.
When they reached Omanthai, the fishermen said, they came under the fire of the LTTE but fortunately the army noticed this and fired back at the enemy.
The Army has informed the incident to the International Committee of Red Cross.

In an open letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) president V. Anandasangaree states that there is no doubt that the East had been liberated. It was only liberated, but we should admit that it is not cleared fully of the LTTE menace. Even before the proper mopping up operations are over and with some LTTE pocket still existing, you decided to hold the elections to the local bodies in the East in a great hurry, while also saying that a lot of odds have to be cleared.

Your Excellency,

ELECTIONS TO THE EASTERN PROVINCIAL COUNCIL

Please permit me to express my views on the Provincial Council Elections to be held in the East shortly.
I had contested four elections to the local bodies and ten Parliamentary General Elections held since 1960. I have a moral duty to give a little bit of advice based on my experience that extends to a period of over half a century. Our country is in a mess facing innumerable problems and the worst is that there are problems within problems, which have accumulated over a period of 50 years. They cannot be sorted out overnight or in a short period and should be dealt with one by one.
I hope you will not disagree with me if I say that our Parliament itself is not properly constituted. How else can I describe it when it is having 22 of its 225 members elected fraudulently? The Election Monitors of the EU, the Commonwealth, the PAFFREL and the CMEV will bear testimony. These 22 members of the TNA, acknowledged proxies of the LTTE, go round the world glorifying even the atrocious activities of the LTTE without uttering one word about the worst type of human rights violations taking place in areas under the control of the LTTE, where people can open their mouths only to eat and yawn. The Government had failed in its duty to expose properly the atrocious activities of the LTTE in their areas behind the Iron-Curtain.
Although it is unpalatable to admit that a lot of human rights violations take place in areas under the control of the Government also, the fact remains that people are aware that there are a few hidden hands that are responsible for such violations. The world does not know what happened to S.S.P. Charles Wijayawardene when he went to investigate a killing caused accidentally by a soldier. The LTTE cadre requested the said officer to go unarmed and without security. When he went there they hacked him to death. This happened only about three miles away from the Jaffna Town.
Within minutes of the incident a pro-LTTE Tamil website released the news with photographs, putting the blame on the innocent civilians. There are hardly any Tamil police officers stationed in Jaffna. More than 90% of them are Sinhalese officers. How can we blame the Sinhalese Police officers for failing to conduct proper investigations in such a situation? This is one of the reasons for the increase in human rights violations in the North and in the East too. Everyday some killings or abductions are taking place both in the North and the East. If the Government is determined to catch the real culprits, although all cannot be traced, at least some of them can either be traced or many killings can be prevented. Among others, the culprits include the LTTE cadre also.
To make this appeal short, let me come to the subject of elections in the East held recently and to be held shortly. There is no doubt that the East had been liberated. It is only liberated but we must admit that it is not cleared fully of the LTTE menace. Even before the proper mopping up operations are over and with some LTTE pockets still existing, you had decided to hold the elections to the local bodies in the East in a great hurry. A lot of odds have to be cleared. The people of the East should have been allowed freely to breathe the air of independence after a lapse of 15 to 20 years. Even before normalcy returned and people are still living in fear and tension and killings continue unabated without even one single assailant being caught, and when people are still aware as to who are responsible for various violations, you had called for elections to be held immediately.
I have consulted a number of local people of standing. What they say is that although arms were not used by anybody to threaten the voters, the knowledge of possession of weapons was good enough to serve as a deterrent to free thinking. That is a fact which no one can deny. Helping to put one group in power is not our problem but, that party should have been encouraged to gain credibility among the people as a first step.
With great reluctance and deep regret I wish to bring to your notice that the Government is blamed by the people for doing everything in a great hurry. The Government must now play the roll of the umpire and conduct the elections by encouraging every political party, including yours to contest the forthcoming election, promising to protect all democratic norms including the disarming all armed groups. That is the only way the Government can regain its lost prestige and convince the International Community of its genuineness in bringing back normalcy and peace to the country.
If any group needs protection of the Government from the LTTE, such groups can seek Government security for its protection. If you take this as a genuine advice coming from a person who loves the country and its people, kindly give effect to it. Your role at this election should be like that of an umpire encouraging every political party including yours and Independent Groups to stake their claims. Please rest assured that my cooperation is available to you for the conduct of a free and fair election and to redeem the prestige the country lost by meddling with the democratic rights of our people to vote for the man and the party of their choice.
Please allow the STF to remain in the East still the elections are over.

LTTE boat manufacturing centre destroyed

Air Force has attacked to the LTTE Front Defence Line at 10.15a.m at Kalliadanchan area using MI 24 fighter jets this morning (26), the security sources say.
The sources confirmed that the LTTE Front Defence Line has completely been destroyed with several bunkers by the attack and heavy damages were occurred to the LTTE.
The Air force has also attacked on boat production factory at 10.50a.m at Wishwamadukulam in Mullaithivu this morning. The pilots had confirmed the controlling centre that the boat production factory was totally destroyed.
Meanwhile, Media Center for National Security says that two police officers were killed and four were injured due to a claymore blast on Thandiadi-Walakalai road at 9.30a.m in Batticaloa this morning. Fight terrorism- don`t capitulate to it "Israel PM"

"Do not give in to terrorism because it will only bring destruction to your country. Terrorism must be fought; one must not capitulate to it," said Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka.
A statement issued by the Israeli Prime Minister's office quoted Olmert as saying to the Sri Lankan leader during the first day of the Sri Lankan leader's four day visit to Israel that terrorism has to be fought against severely.
The visiting Prime Minister of Sri Lanka said in Jeruselam that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is maintaining strong relations with internationally accepted terrorist groups like PKK and some affiliates of the dreaded Al Qaida.
Quoting experts of terrorism Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka, who happens to be the Indian Ocean island republic's first Prime Minister to visit Israel said that "Sri Lanka's LTTE maintain relations with PKK, Taliban, and some affiliates of the Al Qaeda."
Speaking about the current situation in Sri Lanka the Sri Lankan leader said, "The black Tigers are responsible for suicide operations and have perfected suicide bombings and assassinations. It is generally believed that they learnt it from some Palestinian groups."
Premier Wickremanayake has held talks with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defence Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
He will also be travelling to the West Bank to meet with Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas.
On a four-day working visit to Israel, during his meeting with Israel Prime Minister Olmert, the SL Premier noted that his country has been dealing with a severe terrorism problem that is affecting both the daily life as well as the national economy, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said.
Prime Minister Wickremanayake said his island nation shares a lot of commonalities with Israel and both the nations have been at the receiving end of terror attacks.

Nedumaran to visit London to raise LTTE funds

India's pro-Tamil Tiger leader Pazha Nedumaran is scheduled to visit London to be engaged in fund raising activities of the proscribed terrorist group the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), sources close to Mari Amma Temple in Tooting London, said.
"Nedumaran is scheduled to address a gathering at the LTTE owned temple, March 29, but his visa has yet to be cleared by the British authorities," the sources further indicated.
The temple authorities admitted he is scheduled to speak but said his arrival cannot be confirmed as his visa is yet to be issued.
Golden Lambert and A.C.Shanthan , two accused who are out on bail on LTTE fund raising charges against them under Britain's anti-terrorist laws are reportedly the main organizers of the Nedumaran fund raising event.
Nedumaran is the leader of Thamil Desiya Iyakkam, an extremist political party of Tamil Nadu who was arrested few days ago in Chennai for demonstrating for the LTTE with 164 of his supporters. The demonstration that was able to attract only a fraction of the crowds it used to attract for anti-Sri Lanka events in Chennai earlier was held to protest what they called the supply of arms by India for the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
The demonstration, which was held at the Memorial Hall , near a Railway Station in Chennai , was also joined by another political party Viduthalai Chiruthalgai Katchi also called Dalit Panthers but efforts of both parties was not sufficient to attract big crowds, observers said.
The fundraising event scheduled, is to take place at 180-186 Upper Tooting Road, Tooting , London SW17 7EJ. Nedumaran is going to be joined by Neganethram Karunanidhi and N. Siva Nethram , both from Tamil Nadu.

Five LTTEers arrested with explosives at Modera

COLOMBO: Police arrested five LTTE suspects with 4 kg of C4 explosives from a house in Aluth Mawatha, Modera in a pre-dawn search operation, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said.
Briefing the media at the weekly security news conference at the MCNS yesterday Brigadier Nanayakkara said following a tip-off police surrounded a house in the Aluth Mawatha area in Modera yesterday morning and arrested five suspects along with 4kgs of C4 explosives, 10 electric detonators and four time devices.
Meanwhile, police at a road block arrested four LTTE suspects attempting to abduct a Manager working at an Insurance Company in Pomppaimadu, Vavuniya on Monday evening.
One of the LTTE cadres swallowed a cyanide and was admitted to the Anuradhapura hospital. "A hand grenade and a pistol were recovered from the LTTE cadres," he added.
Meanwhile, Air Force fighter jets pounded an LTTE military logistics storage facility yesterday at around 9.20 am causing heavy damages to the Tigers, Air Force Wing Commander Andrew Wijesuriya said. The air raid was carried out following accurate information provided by the ground intelligence sources and air surveillance. "The pilot confirmed the target was precise and caused heavy damages," he added.
He reiterated that intelligence sources confirmed three LTTE cadres were killed and eight others injured in an air raid carried out by the Air Force at the Sea Tiger Coordinating Centre located in Puthukudiruppu on Saturday

India will never allow separate State in Lanka: PM

ISRAEL: India will never allow a separate independent state for Tamils to be carved out from Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said here yesterday.
"It should be borne in mind that India will never allow a separate independent state for Tamils in Sri Lanka because such a development will have a disastrous effect in India," Wickramanayaka, who is the first Sri Lankan Prime Minister to visit Israel, told a gathering.
"India has always been committed to Sri Lanka's territorial integrity," he added. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister, who is on a four-day visit, claimed that LTTE leader V Prabhakaran wanted to create a Tamil state by "including certain parts of India as well". Seeking international support in the fight against LTTE, Wickramanayaka said it has become a cross border menace which requires global coordination.
"The international community can help us in our fight against terrorism. If the illegal activities of the Tigers in collecting funds can be effectively curtailed and if smuggling of arms can be intercepted, LTTE can be forced to come to the negotiating table," he said. He also accused the LTTE of using peace talks as a cover "to regroup and carry out heinous crimes".
He said that his country is committed to a political solution to the three-decade-old conflict and is not seeking a military solution. He ruled out any division of the island nation, which he said has remained as one single unit throughout history. "It is not feasible politically or economically," he said.
While asserting that his Government's doors are always open to peace talks, the Premier dismissed any chances of a breakthrough with the LTTE under the current megalomaniac leader [Prabhakaran].
Describing the steps being taken by his Government to bring strife torn areas to normality and to draw minority communities and peripheral populations to the mainstream, Wickramanayaka referred to the 13th Amendment (on devolution of power), which he said was based on "the Indian model".
The decision of the Government to fully implement the 13th Amendment has been commended by India and other countries as a welcome step in finding a political solution acceptable to all communities within a united Sri Lanka, Wickramanayaka said.
"More than any other country, India is well informed of our complex situation and the Amendment that has introduced the provincial council system was a result of Indo-Sri Lanka accord signed in the year 1987," he added.
Brushing aside international criticism on his country's human rights record, Wickramanayaka said that the Security Forces are "waging a campaign against a ruthless terrorist outfit and there can be sometime minor infractions and civilian casualties".
"We are taking adequate precautions in minimising civilian casualties and the Armed Forces are being given training in human rights and international humanitarian laws," he stressed.
He alleged that the Tigers maintain links with international terror groups such as PKK and certain affiliates of Al-Qaida. "According to some experts on terrorism, they maintain contacts with other terror groups such as PKK, Taliban, Islamic groups in the Philippines and even some affiliates of Al-Qaida," he said.
He also said that certain reports mentioned about Tamil youths receiving training in Palestinian camps in Syria and Lebanon.
"The Black Tigers are responsible for suicide operations and have perfected suicide bombings and assassinations. It is generally believed that they learnt it from some Palestinian groups," Wickramanayaka said.
He has held talks with Israeli President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Defence Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

Four LTTE cadres were taken into custody by the Vavunia police when a Manager of Insurance Company was being abducted at Pompemadu, Vavunia yesterday.
The Manager has been abducted by the LTTE cadres who were travelling by two motor bikes when he was returning after participating for a wedding at Thirunavukulam, Kalikulam area. The LTTE cadres were taken into custody on information received by the police at 2.50 pm.
One terrorist has been hospitalized due to having Cyanide and other three were taken to the Vavunia Police station. Seven bullets, a bomb, a pistol, and a magazine were found by the police being their custody.

Over 500 LTTE cadres were killed in last two weeks


So far 501 LTTE cadres have been killed and a large number of LTTE cadres were injured in the confrontations during the last two weeks. Over 115 LTTE dead bodies have been handed over to the International Committee of Red Cross during the last couple of months.
Army Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said that another eleven LTTE dead bodies are to be sent to the International Committee of Red Cross today. He further stated that 186 Tamil civilians have been flown into the cleared areas during the time of March 05 to March 24.Meanwhile, 54 soldiers were killed and 223 soldiers were injured in the clashes between the LTTE and the security forces. The majority of injured were due to anti-personal mines and killing traps.Security forces have captured 31 square kilometres in Mannar so far.
